NHS Health Checks continue in Havering

11 September 2019

Public health bosses have confirmed that the NHS Health Checks programme is not being ‘scrapped’ in Havering – contrary to claims in a recent local media report.

Duncan Selbie, Chief Executive of Public Health England, responded quickly, reassuring local people that national changes to the programme would in fact help improve take-up in Havering of these vital health checks.

He said: “The NHS Health Check programme is not being “scrapped”. Rather the Government’s evidence review is an opportunity to make it even more effective at reaching the 50% of people who do not take up the current offer – and those who would benefit from a more frequent check. Local Government and the NHS will need to work together to make the next generation of health checks the best available in the world.”
