Havering CCG commissioned Nuffield Health in February 2014 to provide a community Ophthalmology service which is based a Westland in Hornchurch.
The purpose is to provide patients and GPs additional choice at the point of referral, meet growing demand within a community-based context. The service is consultant-led and it is anticipated this referral route will help reduce waiting periods for ophthalmology.
All patients will be seen in clinics at Westland Medical Centre in Hornchurch where they will have initial consultations and diagnostics, plus minor procedures and prescriptions can be dealt with at the clinic.
If elective surgery is required patients will be given a booked appointment at Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital. Pre-operative assessments for elective surgery will be done on the day of initial consultation to minimise additional travel for patients. Any follow-up appointments will all be held at Westland Medical Centre. For all surgical patients, an ophthalmic trained nurse will counsel and provide discharge advice to patients, their family or carers and emergency contact details will be provided.
Westland Medical Centre does not have any parking facilities; patients can be dropped off and picked up from outside the building. There are two disabled parking bays. Free parking is available close by in the town centre / supermarket car park. Patients eligible for transport will need this to be arranged by their own GP.
Please find further information below for condition specific pathways for some common eye conditions and a Patient Pathway for generic referrals, plus a Referral Form.
