In order to ensure IBD patients are seen urgently when required and to support GP’s, from Monday 15 February 2021 the BHRUT Gastroenterology team will be running two IBD Rapid Access Clinics per week at King George Hospital (KGH) on a Monday and a Thursday (to enable patient choice) and with the aim of patients being seen within 48-72 working hours (where appropriate) of the referral being received by the Trust.
GP’s will need to refer patients to the service electronically ONLY please (We will start looking at how or if we can put this on e-RS if possible), by completing the below referral proforma and sending it via email to bhrut.ibdrapidaccessreferrals@nhs.net which is a dedicated mailbox for this service (there is a hyperlink to this mailbox embedded within the referral for convenience).
Their clinicians will review the referral within 48 working hours and dependant on the action required, the relevant member of staff will be in touch with the patient/GP accordingly. In the event of an appointment, the patient will be contacted to agree the date and time of attendance by phone, and they will inform the GP of the outcome within 48 hours of the patient being seen.
BHRUT will review the use of this service over the next six months for any further improvements that may be made based on feedback from all involved.
